SURELY any dimwit could have told our far-sighted leaders that when push comes to shove foreign companies will prioritise their own 'home' customers! The power companies of Iberdrola (Spain, remember the Armada), Electricite de France or EDF (Napoleon called us a nation of shopkeepers) and E.ON (Germany, opponents in two world wars) will put their 'home' customers first when it comes to supply and pricing. I will not mention fuel pipelines and Russia as I believed we triumphed in the Cold War! All in all, privatisation in this country has been an unmitigated disaster for Joe Public, but not so for the Fat Cats - every utility is chasing Mammon - for some are getting seriously rich. It appears the ploy is 'death by a thousand cuts'. The government reduces resources for the 'victim' reducing their effectiveness, then as service deteriorates, flogs the utility off cheaply to the waiting wolves - is this happening to a Post Office near you, or is it all just a bad dream?
